Valencia – the sunny place
It is not surprising that Valencia is very popular with tourists at summer time. A holiday in Valencia is an excellent opportunity to go in for sports, enjoy diverse nightlife and cultural heritage.
Valencia is the city and the administrative centre of the Valencia Spanish province. This is the third country’s largest city after Madrid and Barcelona. Founded by the Greeks in 138 B.C., it was later captured by the Romans. This year is traditionally considered to be the year when Valencia appeared. As the Romans evaluated propitious nature conditions of the valley, they did their best to use its fertile soil in full measure and turned Valencia into one of the best agricultural Spanish regions. It was Junius Brutus who gave this name to the territory and fortified its river Turia bank. “Valentia”, from which the city got its name, means “The Brave one”.
The traces of past Moorish reign can be seen in the eastern architectural elements of the city, full of joy and brightness. Moreover, local Valencia people are really cordial and like to have fun. For instance, one of the most important local holidays is the Saint Jose day celebrated in March. It is traditionally considered to be the best time to visit the city.
In additional to many historic attractions, Valencia boasts its outstanding architectural buildings built in the recent years. That is, first of all, ultramodern Music Palace that is located on the bank of the Turia crease. The palace has an exceptionally convenient lay-out and excellent acoustics, thanks to which musicians from all over the world often give concerts here. Among the interesting objects is also one of the Turia bridges which looks like the white yacht sail. The bridge was created by a world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava from Valencia.
The city throws his doors opened right into the Mediterranean, with all its prospects directed to the second most significant Spanish port (after the one in Barcelona) and the famous Malvarrosa beaches, where in the recent years there was a multikilometer embankment built that offers its numerous cafes and restaurants. Valencia beaches are really worth visiting. However, tourists and local people often prefer the sand dunes of the Cullera resort that is 25 km form the place.
Moreover, there are well-equipped beaches found all over the 500 km Valencia coast that are divided into several districts: Costa de Asaar (the coast of orange flovour) in the northern part of the Castellon province, Costa-de-Valencia and Costa Blanca (The White Coast) on the south of the Alicante province.
